WOOSTER Anyone who wants a COVID-19 vaccine can simply walk into one of Wayne County’s six upcoming clinics to get the shot.
Wayne County Health Department will host walk-in clinics at four locations over the next month that will not require an appointment. Three clinics will be held in Wooster, with clinics also scheduled for Doylestown, Mount Eaton and West Salem.
Individuals seeking a vaccine must be 18 years or older.
Wayne County walk-in clinics
The health department will host three of its walk-in clinics at the Wooster Nazarene Church. The clinics will be held on Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Thursday, May 27, 9 a.m.-noon.
Town & Country Fire Department will host the West Salem walk-in clinic on Tuesday, May 18. The clinic will be held at the fire station, located at 60 N. Lincoln St. in the village, 6-8 p.m.
New Leaf Center will host a clinic at its facility in Mount Eaton on Wednesday, May 19, 9 a.m.-noon. The center is located at 16014 E. Chestnut St., right along state Route 241 and a block off US Route 250.
Crossroads Community Church in Doylestown will hold a second walk-in clinic on Friday, May 21. The church was the site of the health department’s first walk-in clinic late last month. The clinic will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and is located at 700 Gates St., just off state Route 585.
Vaccination rates slow, cases plummet
Wayne County is closing in on a third of its population receiving the first dose of the vaccine. As of Tuesday, the vaccine started rate was 31.58, about 9% less than the state rate.
The vaccine rate was increasing about 2.5% to 3.5% each week between mid-February to the end of March but slowed to about 1% to 1.5% each week through April.
During the last three months, the county has seen its case numbers plummet from 1,368 in January to 333 in April. The last time the caseload per month dropped below 200 was September.
