Cambria municipalities to share road crack sealer
CARROLLTOWN — Three Cambria County municipalities will share a new road crack sealer with the aid of state funding.
Carrolltown Borough was awarded a $45,000 grant through the Community Development Block Grant program, which will fund the purchase of a road crack sealer that will be shared between Carrolltown, Summerhill
Borough and Croyle Township.
A portion of the funds will also go toward the purchase of a generator for the Carrolltown Fire Engine Company.
“This is a big win for everyone involved,” Carrolltown Borough Manager Lonnie Batdorph said. “We’re all going to work together to share the machine, and it’s going to make things a lot easier on all three of us.”
According to Batdorph, the three municipalities were previously forced to rent a crack sealer unit from a company in Latrobe.
Due to limited availability and financial restraints, the unit was only able to be rented every two to three years.
With the purchase of a new unit, Batdorph said he expects annual service on all borough streets, adding that it will save the borough money in the process.
“This is going to help us tremendously,” he said.
Batdorph said all three municipalities agreed to enter a collaborative maintenance agreement for service on the new unit.
The new generator at the Carrolltown Fire Engine Company will enable the department to use safety equipment and operate the fire station during power outages.
