1 killed in Buckingham Township house fire
Firefighters had received reports of people trapped inside the residence on the 5800 block of Private Drive.
Located on a one way in and out road with a lack of access to water, battling the blaze proved to be quite difficult.
As a result, the man who lived at the home never made it out.
Police say it happened at 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning.
Upon arrival, police and fire units found a homeowner outside saying that there was another person trapped. But the house was fully engulfed with flames and smoke, preventing firefighters from getting in.
Neighbors also say once they realized what was happening there was little they could do.
“We came out later and the place was burning and that was all we saw. All the emergency personnel were here already,” said Bill Dominick.
Eventually, crews were able to get the flames under control but it was too late. The man inside was found unresponsive and he was pronounced dead.
Neighbors add it was an older couple who lived there and the husband wasn’t able to get out much. It was tough for him to get around.
Now their focus will be on making sure his wife knows she’s cared for.
“The neighbors will pull together and we’ll figure out what we’re going to do. This is a pretty tight neighborhood right here on the road. So, we’ll probably pull something together for her in the next couple days I’m thinking,” Dominick said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
