Details:

At just after 9 am Monday September 15, 2008 Cherry Hill Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians received an emergency call reporting a fire at 8 Scattergood Road in the Township’s Old Orchard neighborhood. First arriving firefighters discovered a fire that originated in the basement in the vicinity of the heater. Knowing that these fires advance quickly Acting Battalion Chief Montrell Haldeman transmitted an “All Hands Signal” to request addition resources to the scene. This incident is on the heels of a major motor vehicle crash on Interstate 295 this past Thursday that lasted over 12 hours. Firefighters and EMT’s aided accident victims, performed hazardous material control task and technical extrication. The next event was a serious fire at Keystone Industries located at 616 Hollywood Avenue. The fire involved equipment used to process plastic pellets. The fire spread to the building structure and required an interior firefight to gain the upper hand. At the Scattergood Road incident, 27 Cherry Hill Firefighters and EMT’s worked to contain the fire to the center of the home. Heater fires are known to rapidly spread via internal ducts and chimneys. Firefighters quickly opened these voids to expose the fire and apply water from above. The fire caused serious damage to the residence and occurred accidentally while a new heater was being installed. One of the installers received minor burns to the arm and refused treatment by Cherry Hill Fire Department Emergency Medical Technicians. This is the Official Press Release from CHFD
